Who can donate blood:
Age 18 -
Having haemoglobin count not less than 12.5 g/dl
Should have normal body temperature and Blood Pressure, free of any disease at the time of donation.
Who cannot donate blood:
The donor should not have taken any medicine in the last 48 hours.
Alcohol user.
The donor has any of the diseases : AIDS, Hepatitis B or C, Syphilis / / Jaundice, Malaria, Filaria etc. (must get certified for blood donation) is not to be allowed
Drugs: A donor is unfit to donate blood if using drugs like Aspirin, anti-
Fever: (not within 20 days after recovery from fever).
Pregnant or lactating women, or those who have recently had an abortion.
Persons with disease like heart disease, kidney disease, liver problems, blood disorders or asthma should NOT donate blood.
Tips on Blood Donating
Have a good meal at least 3 hours before donating blood.
Accept the snacks offered after the donation. It is recommended to have a good meal later.
Avoid smoking on the day before donating. One can smoke 3 hours after donation.
